Understanding pH Levels and Kangen Water Settings

pH scale

What is pH?

pH stands for "potential of hydrogen" and measures how acidic or alkaline a substance is on a scale of 0-14. A pH of 7 is neutral, below 7 is acidic, and above 7 is alkaline. It is a property of a substance or solution, not a measure of how a water setting changes the body's pH.

The pH Scale

0-6
Acidic
7
Neutral
8-14
Alkaline

Why pH Matters for Water Settings

Each water setting has a different intended practical use:

  • Strong Kangen Water: pH 11.5 for cleaning and produce washing, not drinking
  • Kangen Water: pH 8.5 to 9.5 for drinking and cooking
  • Clean Water: pH 7.0 for neutral filtered-water uses
  • Beauty Water: pH 4.0 to 6.0 for personal-care routines
  • Strong Acidic Water: pH 2.5 for appropriate surface sanitizing

Common pH Levels

  • Lemon Juice: about pH 2 to 3 (acidic)
  • Soda: 2.5 pH (very acidic)
  • Coffee: 5.0 pH (acidic)
  • Pure Water: 7.0 pH (neutral)
  • Clean Water: 7.0 pH (neutral filtered water)
  • Kangen Water: 8.5-9.5 pH (alkaline)

pH Is Not a Diet Scorecard

Food and drinks have their own pH values, but drinking alkaline water is not a way to balance body pH or offset particular foods:

  • Soft drinks and coffee are commonly acidic beverages
  • Water pH can affect flavor in tea, coffee, and cooking
  • Water pH is one feature to compare in a home ionizer
  • Individual nutrition questions belong with a qualified professional

How Kangen Water Uses pH

A Kangen machine uses electrolysis to create distinct water settings from filtered tap water. The settings are intended for specific practical uses:

  • pH 8.5 to 9.5 for drinking and cooking
  • pH 7.0 for neutral filtered-water uses
  • pH 11.5 for cleaning and produce washing
  • pH 4.0 to 6.0 for personal-care routines
  • pH 2.5 for appropriate surface sanitizing

Important Note: Kangen Water does not change or balance body pH. pH is presented here only as a measurable water setting and a guide to intended use.

Getting Started with Alkaline Water

  1. See each setting demonstrated at a local Honolulu tasting
  2. Use drinking settings for drinking and cooking
  3. Use cleaning and acidic settings only for their intended applications
  4. Ask about filters, maintenance, and Oahu hard-water care
